Fuzzy Mud by: Louis Sachar

This title caught my attention and I figured it should be read.  Author Louis Sachar's Fuzzy Mud was indeed a fun book to read.  I'm glad that I can now share it with you.

Tamaya and Marshall are two students at the private school, Woodridge Academy they are neighbors and walk to and from school together.  One day Marshall decides that they should take a "short-cut" home from school walking through the woods next to their school.  Marshall is trying to avoid the school bully, Chad, who has told Marshall he would be getting him after school.  Unfortunately, when Marshall isn't seen on his regular route home Chad begins looking in the woods.  Chad catches up to Marshall and Tamaya and when the fight begins Tamaya picks up fuzzy looking mud rubbing it in Chad's face.  When Tamaya's hand is covered in a horrible rash the next day and Chad is missing from school, she is concerned.  Marshall isn't concerned at all, feeling that the bully deserves whatever happens.  Soon Tamaya enters the woods looking for Chad.  When Marshall learns that Tamaya is now missing he is soon sneaking off into the woods looking for both Tamaya and Chad.  Chad is found with the rash all over him.  Soon the city is under quarantine while the source and cure for this rash is being studied.  Will they all be ok?

Thoughout the book we have excerpts from a Senate hearing regarding small living microorganisms.  These microorganisms can be a better gasoline helping us all.  However, is it now causing the horrible rashes and even some deaths?

This is a book all about friendship that can be forged in unlikely places and about doing the right thing even when it would be easier to not do a thing.

When you have finished reading this book go and make a new friend.

Creepy Carrots by: Aaron Reynolds

Jasper the rabbit is experiencing something very strange, carrots are following him everywhere, it is really quite creepy!  Aaron Reynolds has written a very fun read aloud with his book Creepy Carrots!

Why are the carrots from the field following Jasper?  Jasper loves these carrots!  I'm sure Jasper thinks that the carrots should love him too.  So why are they following him?  It is a question with a funny answer.  Be sure to read this book to find out about Jasper and his problem carrots.

My students love this book, it is never on a shelf since they all want to read this themselves.

Enjoy a healthy snack of carrots after reading this book.

When Mischief Came To Town by: Katrina Nannestad

Author Katrina Nannestad has introduced the world to a wonderful young girl, Inge Maria, in her book When Mischief Came To Town.

Inge Maria has lost both of her parents and must move from the big city of Copenhagen to the small island of Bornholm to live with her grandmother.  She has never met her grandmother and when Inge Maria arrives on the island she is not welcomed with open arms.  Inge Maria is a curious child and as she sees and experiences new things on this island she finds herself in just a bit of trouble.  One funny event was having a bucket kicking contest with a donkey.  You will laugh as she plays this kicking game with the stubborn donkey of her grandmother!  As she spends time with her grandmother and attending the small school she makes friends with many that have lived on the island all their lives.  She brings such joy to all, not only to the characters in the book but also to each reader.

I highly recommend this book to all readers who like to make new life-long friends as they read books.

After reading this book go out and make a new friend!

Dragons Love Tacos by: Adam Rubin

Adam Rubin has written a very fun story, one you will want to share with any Dragon loving child.  The book Dragons Love Tacos will have your child wanting to have their very own Dragon Taco Party.

Dragons really love their tacos and all kinds of parties.  This means that taco parties are really a big hit with dragons.  There is just one small thing that dragons do not like with their tacos and if they have this, LOOK OUT!  I won't spoil it, you must read to find out what you must never give to a dragon.

Be sure to read this book on a Taco Tuesday kind of day you will love it!

Paul Meets Bernadette by: Rosy Lamb

Rosy Lamb has written and illustrated a delightful story in her book Paul Meets Bernadette.  A story of friendship that will make readers and listeners appreciate their own friends.

Paul is a goldfish who swims around his bowl everyday.  One day Bernadette drops in, literally.  She shows Paul that there is a whole world to see outside of the fishbowl.  Bernadette has some interesting definitions of things like a banana isn't a banana it is a boat!?  You and your children will get the chance to see and talk about how a fish might see the world differently than we do.

This is a great read-aloud that I'm sure all families will enjoy.

After reading this book pretend to be a fish and see the world around you in a different way.
