The Thank You Book by: Mo Willems

Author Mo Willems' Elephant & Piggie series is one of the best series for beginning readers.  The series comes to an end with the book The Thank You Book.  I have enjoyed sharing these books with my students and with my beginning reader friends.  I know you will enjoy this book as well as the others in the series.  Mo Willems is one awesome children's book author and illustrator.

This is a sweet story about showing gratitude to those that help us throughout our lives.  Piggie wants to thank everyone and Elephant is sure someone will be forgotten.  Piggie goes and finds all the friends made throughout the book series.  Elephant keeps saying someone will be forgotten.  Can Piggie really find and remember everyone?  I will let you, the reader, find out if Piggie truly remembers everyone.

The Story of Diva and Flea by: Mo Willems

I picked up this book because I am a big fan of author Mo Willems and I hope he will do more early chapter books with Tony DiTerlizzi as this book was great!

The Story of Diva and Flea is the story of Diva, a dog, and Flea, a cat.  They have both lived in Paris all of their lives.  Diva has never left her patio and Flea has never had a home.  In fact he does not like humans at all.  Diva loves her human and the routine of her life.  Once Diva and Flea become friends they both have new adventures.  Flea learns to trust and Diva learns that life can be very exciting outside of her gate.  They are very different in many ways but they become the best of friends.

I really loved this simple story and I think children who are just beginning to read chapter books will love this story too.

City Dog, Country Frog by: Mo Willems

I am a very big fan of Mo Willems. I believe this is the first book I have read that is written by him but not illustrated by him.  This book is wonderfully illustrated by Jon J. Muth.  City Dog, Country Frog will be added to the books written by Mo Willems that I love and I'm excited to share it with everyone.  


When city dog visits the country he is happy to run about without his leash.  He finds a frog near a pond and a friendship is formed.  They play frog games and dog games and spend time remembering the fun they have together.  Dog is sad when frog hibernates during the winter and hopes they will meet again in the spring.  When that doesn't happen, will dog find another new friend?

This is a great story of friendship.  After reading this book, go and spend sometime with your best friend.
