Did you enjoy the book Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans as a child?  Because just like there are 12 little girls in Madeline there are 12 little monsters in this book.   This book begins where Frankenstein:  A Monstrous Parody (a parody of Madeline) ends.  Frankenstein is sure that he can help all of his friends get the best gifts ever, the gifts they need the most.  But after they receive their gifts they realize that Frankenstein did not receive a gift.  Can Santa help the monsters?

I loved Madeline as a child and I enjoyed this book just as much.  I hope you will check both books out and enjoy them both this holiday season.

If Your Monster Won't Go To Bed by: Denise Vega

As parents it can sometimes be hard to get your child to go to bed but imagine if you needed to get a monster to go to bed??  In Denise Vega's book If Your Monster Won't Go To Bed a young girl gives instructions on how you can get your monster to bed.  Illustrator Zachariah Ohora's drawings are perfect in showing us what will happen as we follow the instructions.

"Time for bed!" are three words that monsters hate to hear.  Our mothers and fathers cannot help us put our monsters to bed because they don't know how to do it properly.  We all know that if monsters don't get their sleep there will be no playing slime ball the following day.  Our young hero lists out exactly what to do in order for your monster to sleep tight so that the next day all is well with us and our monsters.

This is the perfect book to read at bedtime.  Having such great advice on just what to do and what not to do to get your monster to bed might get you to bed a little faster than usual.

After reading this book it's time to lay your head on your pillow.  Sweet Dreams!

Friday Barnes Girl Detective by: R.A. Spratt

If you enjoy mysteries this is a book you will love.  Friday Barnes Girl Detective is the first in the new series by R.A. Spratt.  It is a story you will not soon forget.

Friday Barnes is born into a family that loves science.  Her parents and much older siblings are all busy with their science lives so Friday spends much of her time alone reading everything she can inside her home.  She is a very intelligent young girl and when she is able to solve a case for the local police she takes the reward money and enrolls in a private school.

She has never had friends or even knows how to interact with others near her age.  She has very interesting encounters with the students at her new school.  When she is asked to help a classmate prove their innocence to the Headmaster Friday doesn't realize she is beginning a new career as school detective.

She solves a few of the cases that classmates give her but the biggest mystery at the school is the "swamp monster".  Is the monster real?  As Friday uses her skills at looking for clues at all times she just might be able to help the school solve this "swamp monster" mystery once and for all.

There are funny moments that we can all relate to as Friday learns how to be at the school with others her own age.  Her roommate and BFF, Melanie, is also an interesting character.  There is even possibly a love interest for Friday, does she really like Ian??  You will laugh and you will try to solve the case right along with Friday.  She is a girl you will come to love.

I enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more in the series.

After reading this book see if there isn't anyone you might be able to help just like Friday does in this story.

The Princess in Black by: Shannon and Dean Hale

Authors Shannon and Dean Hale have written a great beginning chapter book that may sound like the perfect girl book, but I believe that most boys will love the ninja skills this princess has.

The Princess in Black, Princess Magnolia, is being visited by the Duchess Wigtower.  As they begin to enjoy some hot chocolate and scones, the Monster Alarm rings.  Can the Princess leave her castle while a Duchess is visiting?  Magnolia isn't sure, but she knows that she must save her kingdom from the monsters.  Magnolia quickly leaves the Duchess and when she exits the castle she transforms into the Princess in Black.  With the help of her pony, she is quickly at the borders of her land fighting the monsters.  She demonstrates some great ninja skills and before long she is  back in her castle wearing her official pink princess dress, ready to complete her visit with the Duchess.

After reading this book go out and have an adventure of your own.
